Female-led travel movies have a way of doing what real life sometimes can’t – pushing you out of your routine and into something bigger. Whether it’s a solo journey of self-discovery or a complete reset in a new country, these films don’t just show you where to go; they show you who you might become when you get there. I’ve always been drawn to that.
As a British-born journalist of Pakistani background, I’ve spent chunks of my life moving between places — from two pre-teen years exploring a whole new world in the UAE, to navigating lockdown in Australia, to now building a life in the US, with plenty of solo trips (empowering, and scary!) in between. And if I’m honest, a lot of that instinct to go, to leave, to figure things out elsewhere, was shaped by what I saw on screen. Films like Wild, Tracks, and Eat, Pray, Love don’t sell you a glossy version of travel. They lean into the uncomfortable parts – the loneliness, the uncertainty, the emotional fallout – and that’s exactly what makes them stick. If you’re looking for the best female-led travel movies that will actually inspire your next trip – not just aesthetically, but emotionally – these are the ones worth watching.
