Colleen Hoover’s books have transported readers from small-town romances to seriously twisted thrillers – and their big-screen adaptations have now taken fans to some equally impressive real-world destinations.
With Verity, starring Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett, bringing Hoover’s psychological thriller to cinemas and topping the box office (!!!), it’s the perfect time to look back at some of the destinations that have brought the author’s stories to life on screen.
From New York City bookshops and leafy New Jersey neighbourhoods to locations around Atlanta, here are seven Colleen Hoover movie filming locations you can actually visit.
1. Brooklyn, New York – Verity
New York plays a major role in Verity, with filming taking place across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and farther north in Westchester County.
One of the easiest locations for fans to visit is Brooklyn, where Books Are Magic in Carroll Gardens appears early in the film as the bookstore where struggling writer Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson) gives a reading.
Per Conde Nast Traveler, the independent bookshop is a real working store, meaning Colleen Hoover fans can browse the shelves long after filming wrapped – and yes, you can actually find Hoover’s books there.
2. Midtown Manhattan, New York – Verity
Verity also makes use of one of the most instantly recognisable destinations in the world: Manhattan.
Lowen’s journey takes her through Midtown, with filming taking place around Park Avenue and East 41st Street, just a short walk from Grand Central Terminal.
Rather than visiting one single movie location, this is an easy addition to any New York itinerary – particularly for fans wanting to walk through the busy city streets that form the backdrop to the beginning of Lowen’s increasingly dark story.
3. Armonk, New York – Verity
One of Verity’s most memorable settings isn’t actually in Vermont at all.
The imposing Crawford family home, where much of Lowen’s disturbing discovery unfolds, is located in Armonk in Westchester County, New York.
Per Architectural Digest, the striking 1960s residence known as Beckoning Path was designed by Danish designer Jens Quistgaard and gives Verity much of its eerie, isolated atmosphere.
But beware – unlike the public locations on this list, this is a private property and shouldn’t be approached or entered. However, Armonk and wider Westchester County offer fans a chance to explore the leafy New York landscapes that helped create Verity’s fictional Vermont setting.
4. Hoboken, New Jersey – It Ends With Us
Despite It Ends With Us taking place largely in Boston, much of the Blake Lively-led adaptation was actually filmed across New Jersey.
Hoboken became one of its most important filming destinations, with a historic storefront transformed into Lily Bloom’s flower shop.
One of the film’s location managers, Jeff Brown, told PEOPLE the production chose New Jersey partly for its historic architecture and ability to replicate the feel of Boston with its ‘distinct old-city vibe’ – making Hoboken a great stop for fans as well as an easy day trip from nearby New York City.
5. Jersey City, New Jersey – It Ends With Us
Hoboken wasn’t the only New Jersey destination to stand in for Boston.
Several memorable moments from It Ends With Us were filmed in Jersey City, including on Newark Avenue and in the picturesque Van Vorst Park. The area appears throughout Lily’s story, with Newark Avenue providing the backdrop for her relationship with Ryle and serving as the location of Atlas’ restaurant.
Van Vorst Park, meanwhile, features towards the end of the film when Lily and Atlas cross paths again at a farmers’ market.
Both are real public locations, making Jersey City one of the easiest places for fans to explore several It Ends With Us filming spots on a single trip.
6. Clarkston, Georgia – Regretting You
For Regretting You, production headed south to Georgia, with the movie filmed across the wider Atlanta metropolitan area.
One of its filming destinations was Clarkston, a small city east of Atlanta, where scenes were shot at Refuge Coffee Co.
Unlike a purpose-built movie set, Refuge Coffee is a real café that visitors can stop by – making it an easy addition to a Colleen Hoover-inspired trip through Georgia.
7. Atlanta, Georgia – Regretting You
Atlanta and its surrounding communities provided much of the backdrop for Regretting You, starring Allison Williams, McKenna Grace, Dave Franco and Mason Thames.
The production filmed around Metro Atlanta, with locations ranging from schools and neighbourhoods to Sardis United Methodist Church in Buckhead, which was used for an important funeral scene.
Rather than hunting down every individual filming address, fans can use Atlanta as the starting point for exploring the wider region seen throughout the film – and perhaps recognise a few familiar locations along the way.
